In many parts of the world, poverty is a way of life for entire communities. The cycle of poverty is hard to overcome, but one of the key ways to break the cycle is through education. However, the benefit of free public education is not available all parts of the world.
Also, it might not seem obvious as to why and education program and a nutrition program are grouped together. The reality is that in the areas that we work, the children do not receive adequate nutrition. In some cases, they receive only one meal a day and that meal consists of a small bowl of rice. Some days, the children don't eat so that their siblings can eat.
Clearly, step one for these children is to give them food so that they can have good nutrition and so that they can concentrate on learning and not on their hunger. For these children, nutrition and education go hand-in-hand.
